Today I am leaving for a week and a half trip to Atlantic City. As with the past trip (April 2009) I will make an effort to blog while at the Borgata. I’m getting pretty excited about the trip and spent some time today reminiscing about some of the funny things that have happened in the past. Here are two short stories from past trips that I never shared:
On the last trip to Atlantic City we all got buried in the first few days. I don’t remember all the details exactly, but I know that we had about nine guys, all of whom were +EV in their games, and every single one of us was down to start. In the suite we were discussing the chances of such an event:
Me: It’s like you have nine coins, and they’re all weighted in your favor. And then you flip, and eight of them land ON THE EDGE! The ninth one…well that one never even comes back to the ground.
On my most recent trip to Foxwoods my play was criticized by one of the regulars (by that I basically mean old person who was not good). I didn’t respond, but another regular sitting next to me quietly told me that they thought my play was fine. I again didn’t reply, and the second person continued:
2nd reg: ‘Actually, I think you play pretty well.’
(long pause)
2nd reg: ‘…I’ll bet you even win.’
It was all I could do to keep from bursting into laughter. You could tell the pieces were kind of in place:
1) There is a ‘correct’ way to play,
2) Some people choose to use this as their strategy,
and they were getting kind of close:
3) This game is beatable,
4) People who play well are actually winning,
but they just weren’t quite getting there:
5) I could also beat this game by playing well.
Anyway, I just about ran over to BigBadBabar:
